Tantilla nigriceps

Plains Black-headed Snake

PLAINS BLACK-HEADED SNAKE Tantilla nigriceps Kennicott, 1860

STATUS:  Rare

DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Denton, Hood, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise

HABITAT:  Western Cross Timbers and Rolling Plains

COMMENTS:  A lack of interest in small, plain snakes by most members of local herpetological societies probably has influenced observation data on this species.  This species is common west of the Metroplex.
