I've had several close friends who have produced captive babies from wild-caught adults and did experiments with the offspring. Some were fed young toads or frogs, some fed frog/toad flavored pinks, then mice. (this experiment was done with more than 2 dozen snakes that i know of)
results were ALWAYS similar. the amphibian fed snakes did great, as did the rodent feeders FOR A WHILE! within 2 years the rodent eaters always DROPPED DEAD! some while young, some at around 2 yrs, but none made it longer than that! many seemed to be doing great until their sudden early deaths. Seems there is somethin in them thar toads these guys need. Just a word to the wise. Other similar experiences? are there those of you out there who have Easterns eating only rodents for more than 2 years that are doing well??
