Cooks
Cooks Slough Wetlands is a proposed park just south of the city of Uvalde, Texas. The biologist overseeing the development of this park is Ken Cave from Sabinal. Ken has been nice enough to allow me access to the park for photographic purposes and document some of the flora and fauna. This park is going to prove to be a photographers and birders dream come true. I think once the word gets out, Cooks Slough will draw birders, dragonfly hunters and nature lovers from across the country. This page will serve as my photographic journal of some of the wildlife that I have seen here.
9-12-05: I was only able to stay and shoot for a little over an hour due to rain but did get a few shots. Click on the thumbnails to see the full sized versions. Maybe next days off there won't be any rain.
9-25-05 all from near the first pond:
October 2, 2005: I had a few minutes so I ran out to the first pond for about an hour. There were hundreds of Monarchs out today so I guess the migration is underway. Here are a few of what I found:

11-06-05: Bought a Canon 400mm 5.6L and took it to cooks slough today to try out. Makes a DANG good Dragonfly lens! I'll have to wait to see about birds. The two bird shots were handheld and both surprises so they didn't turn out too hot. All of the shots below were taken with the 400mm:
1-8-06: Decided to try my hand at some bird photography Most stuff was too far away for decent pictures but I did manage a few. I need some more practice!
